Last night was the first time I ventured out on the town in Buenos Aires, principally to meet the guest I had been fond of in Iguazu who lives nearby here. First, though, I chilled at the hostel mainly with F, the cute Brazilian bartender. Woke up in the arvo, had a smoke and then proceeded to take 3x longer to do everything else that day. F faffs around like an old nana, I was WORSE in that state. We went to the supermarket and they found me drooling in the sweets aisle with a basket full of biscuits, chips and chocolate, just staring at the shelves. Useless.
Once I was pulled out of the shop, we went back to the hostel to cook and chill out some more. I stayed in the bar for hours longer, making friend after friend as they filed in to get some cheaper drinks before hitting the town. At one point I got myself looking respectable and came down to 2-cabfuls of guests wanting to join me for the night. I was organising via Facebook what to do, not really knowing anything myself to be honest (considering I had been here just one night) but already clearly doing my job well. haha...listen to me.
The bar in Palermo Soho was small, as expected, but packed full. And mostly of locals, which was good. Except that we stuck out even more because of this. I danced mostly with a newly formed couple - the guy from Australia and the girl Canadian - the latter I found to be smoking hot in a tight little dress she bought from a local shop. Speaking of local shops, there is an awesome little boutique around the corner which I really like, and I am dying to get some shoes there. I will need some new heels soon, I am completely wearing out my fave brogues. But it will have to be a bday pressie from mum or dad, no way I am splashing out on those puppies on my budget!! The tattoo was bad enuf!
Anyway, so back to the bar... I had a good boogie with my newfound friends as also found my BA mate, who is cute but got a bit annoying when he saw me kissing the hot Canadian (oh yeah - forgot to mention how that came about... well, we were dancing and she was hot, and I told her so, and soon after she admitted she had a girl crush on me and well, the rest is history), and being Argentinian, he came over and wanted a piece of the action, not realising that she was not interested because she was already with the Australian guy. So that kinda turned me off him.
Soon after, we made a hasty retreat out of the club in search of more special South American party treats. No luck had, even with asking random cabbies (the last time they scored it was from an old cab driver), we eventually folded and got a cab back (a pity since I know it could have turned into a crazy little party in my office room with those 2...). I felt I had spent a lot of money, but I know I didn`t do too badly, considering I didn`t pay much for drinks at the hostel before and it was mainly just cover charge at the club, a couple of drinks and the taxis I had to pay for. I have a feeling that will be my main expenditure here... fuck nutritious meals and tourist attractions.
No, I am meant to get up early tomorrow to organise all the people who want the walking tour of BA from all 3 hostels so I think I will join that, depending on my head. It will be good to see everything with a guide and also to know where things are, should people ask me. I also am going to ask about the staff discount for the tango show/dinner/open bar activity they sell here. An Aussie couple wants to go tomorrow night, so that could be entertaining. But only if it`s free or very cheap!
I am still trying to learn Spanish but so many people here talk English sometimes it`s hard. I was conversing with the cab driver last night, in a way, so that shows progress I guess. And at times I was the translator with some girls in the club and the guys I was with... but some people here are just impossible to understand!! Necesito practicar mas...

The impenetrable gay force
Just a few days into work and I already feel like I have been here a month. I woke up a few hours before work started in the afternoon and used the opportunity to lounge by the massive pool under another faultless sky and get some rays. After having stared jealously out the doors of the bar for a few days now (sans the tropical rainstorm the first day of my work), it was my time to shine. Boom.
Work was good, again, and I kept learning more Spanish. This is gonna be great guns for my bilingual efforts!! Dammit, I will return with additional tongue capibilities!!
Afterwards, a couple of the workers were keen to get on it, and despite starting at 9am the next day, I agreed. A few beers, a topless swim and a good old dance later, and we were en route to Cuba Libre again. I convinced an Asian-looking Aussie guy to come, and had a few others from the hostel including some guests. My recent hook-up, which I now realised would be a repeat performance due to ability to keep a secret (wonder how long that would last), didn`t want to come but I wanted to hang out with my new gay best friend P that works here. Such a darling!!
We had a good dance at the club, but it was hardly full compared to our Friday night visit, and after a couple of titty tequila shots, me and aforementioned gay friend admitted we were drunk and called it quits. One guest, an American girl, had caused a fuss when P refused to give into her come-ons, making him frustrated and me kinda laugh that she wouldn`t believe he was gay. And I mean gay. Ha! Such a difference to my experiences n gay clubs in Rio... couldn`t fight them off quicker!
As we were walking to the further cab rank to get a cheaper fare, the American girl stormed off back up the hill and the Aussie guy ran after her. That was not unusual, considering that after he´d given me a crack and got turned down (felt like he was just doing it cos I wasn`t wearing underwear and had a tongue ring - his admittance) and the girl had had the same happen with the gay guy. Also, he kinda annoyed me by not really socialising and making me feel like I had to babysit him... so we waited until we grew too impatient and I remembered I had to work early the next day, and I got a cab back. "A la cementario" was all I said to the driver. I think.

Covert cake-baking
So I'm sitting here, idling time away dreaming of an extended holiday to Granada should things surprisingly turn out with this Spanish boy... distracting myself successfully from actually learning more Spanish - really, I am hopeless - but all the while waiting for a phone call from J, who earlier invited us to her house for her boyfriend's bday.
The invitation actually came from my joke to come round as she mentioned she had cake when we spoke on FB chat... seems she was keen to bring us over after the family all left, so I jumped at the chance. As you can tell from my previous post, I was all for getting out of the house!
Well, what do you know - she JUST spoke to me on FB chat as I wrote this post and said W is too tired tonight. Oh well. All I'm thinking of is the cake L made for the bday... now it will be all ours, mwah hahahahahahaha!!! Unless we see her tomorrow of course... but maybe we can make another cake and this will just be the trial one?? We're planning a possible meet-up tomoz, so we'll see what happens...
The cake-baking was so cute, L slipped out of the bedroom when we were chilling and I had my earphones on practising Spanish. I didn't think where she could have gone but then I came down to the kitchen (as I frequently do), and there was a cute little cake sitting there filling the room with all sorts of wonderful aromas! I helped out with the icing and now it's sitting in the fridge, beckoning me, sweetly serenading me with its cakey goodness... would be rude to ignore it, wouldn't it...???

Hangover head
After snatching a few quick winks of sleep through the day, I felt kinda human (despite the subtle gritty taste behind some of my teeth, no matter how much I brushed them). Then, as the day wore on, I had a growing pain in my head. I knew I hadn't drunk enuf water during the day but it was hard.
It got to the point, during the second of 2 horserides this afternoon, that I was really not good. I hadn't really told anyone how I was feeling, hoping it would go away on its own accord, but after the ride I had to fess up. Of course G was worried about me, but I assured her it was just a headache. She thought maybe I was lacking minerals because I had gotten new muscles since being here. At that point, I heard L snicker behind me and say under her breath, "You don't need minerals for a hangover!" Cheeky cow.
Made some veggie soup, threw down a couple of Nurofen and trudged off to my room to wallow in my own self-pity til the pills took effect. Really don't like taking pills like that, feel it's so unnatural, but I was aching. And I needed time out from anyone asking me to do anything. For just 10 minutes. Hopefully tomorrow I will keep my temper in check, even if today it was only inside my head.
So now, half a piece of rum cake and chocolate dipped-in-tea later, and I am ready to snuggle back into my bed. I hope when I wake up tomorrow I will have moved a little during my sleep and not locked my hip into an impossibly strained position like I managed to do last night. Must not have moved a muscle in my coma.
Oh, and I spoke to my little Spanish friend today on Facebook chat and I am beginning to understand more n more. Google Translate what?? He speaks to me pretty much always in Spanish, which is good. Not good for him as he's not practising his English, but hey, I need the practice more!! South America, hurry up!!

English, English, English
Oh, and I forgot to add something about yesterday - I helped again as a native English speaker but this time, in a proper English lesson held by G's friend E. It is so easy helping with a language I've spoken my whole life, but it's good to also see what problems people encounter when learning new languages. Now with my Spanish, I can totally empathise!!
Speaking of which, I am coming along slowly but surely... although every time I think I am getting better, G's sister comes in and rattles off some sentence super fast and I have no idea! I am much better at reading it at this stage! But my little Spanish friend is also helping me, we speak almost every night on Facebook and I try to talk with him in Spanish where possible.
Actually, he says he wants to come to Australia after he finishes his law exams at the end of the year and we can get married. Or I can move to Spain. I like Spain but I don't think so. Let's just see if he ever gets to Australia first.
Tomorrow I am having lunch with E and then helping a young boy from her neighbourhood who is having trouble with his English. I don't really mind but sometimes I feel I should be getting paid for this! I mean, G is paying me to be at the farm but all this extra stuf... hmmm...

Warm(ish) weather is icy icy baby
It's been raining the last couple of days, which makes for some interesting situations. I have to be extra careful now because the snow is melting away, exposing the ice that has laid underneath for weeks, and even the mud is sometimes slippery. On the other hand, it is pretty good weather (as in 2 jumpers instead of 2 jumpers and a heavy overcoat kinda weather) for wintertime.
But luckily, because of my gammy wrists, I am having an easy day today, largely inside resting (although typing on the computer for hours probably isn't helping the wrist situation) and not having to do the animals in the afternoon. I keep thinking how nice it is of G to give me the afternoon off, then I remember I haven't actually had a day off in the almost two weeks I've been here! Not that I mind, it's not an issue and G needs me to do the work because she physically can't at the moment. Like I said, good brain and body training.
Well, I'm off now to teach myself some more Spanish. Yesterday was numbers 1 - 1000, today basic phrases. OK. Deep breaths. Ouch, my head already hurts thinking about it.

New Years Eve with no dramas??! Ole!!
New Years Eve. A time for loved ones to get together and reflect on the year passed. A time for friends to make new friends and enjoy their surroundings in perfect harmony. For Buddhists, it was also a time to go CRAZY!!!
Seriously, those who know me know I LOVE to dance and NYE is certainly no exception. I was ready and raring to go before most people left the sports hall - so much so that the Lama commented on my tutu-ed outfit and glittery makeup when he blessed me - and I knew that I would not be the only one on the dancefloor. A welcome change to the cynical and scared people who frequent most of the clubs I find myself in.
I had been thinking about a particular Spanish boy the last few days and once he saw me out of my homeless person get-up of fisherman pants and oversized hoodie, and realised I was actually a decent looking female, it was on. He followed me to the party and indeed stayed with me all night, buying me drinks and dancing with me.
We joined a packed dancefloor and boogied our little hearts out to cover bands, some DJs and a funk band. I think. It all started to blur into one after a while. The drinks were flowing, but not so much that I got really wasted, and I was running high on life all night.
At one point I ended up kissing some Polish (or Czech??) girl in front of Spanish boy, which he didn't know how to take, and then afterwards apologised profusely for interrupting me haha... Bless him.
We lost T and M about 2 minutes after walking in but ran into them a few times through the night. They, along with everyone else, was having a really good time and I can safely say it was one of the best parties I have ever been to. Not one person got angry, messy drunk, rude or negative - everyone was just there to enjoy themselves. Who would've thought they atmosphere was possible, especially on NYE right???
Towards the end of the night, I lost Spanish boy and ended up calling it a night and going back with his Brazilian and Spanish friends. Thinking he was back already, I went to what I guessed was his sleeping bag but he wasn't there so I tucked myself in and had a lovely hour of sleep before I felt someone jump on me and try to get into the same sleeping bag.
Now this sleeping bag did not have a zip so this manouveur was particularly tricky, and given he was naked when I woke up, also somewhat brazen for the middle of a sports hall. I eventually convinced him it wasn't a good idea and we fell asleep, me out of bag and him inside. I thought this better since he was still naked. Haha... the Spanish.
A couple of hours later everyone was roused from their slumbers and pushed out of the hall. I didn't need the encouragement, I was already on my way to the bus station to get a bus to Vienna. Camel farm, here I come!!
